GREG WHITTAKER - Owner

Greg Whittaker is the owner and founder of Mountain to Sound Outfitters and Alki Kayak Tours in West Seattle. He has been working in the ski industry since high school, and began guiding sea kayak tours in 1999 in the San Juan Islands. After a 5-year stint as a project manager working on environmental monitoring and cleanup projects, Greg took the leap to provide the first saltwater-based sea kayak touring operation in the Seattle. Greg started Alki Kayak Tours in 2005 and went back to work ski shops in the winters. In 2007, Greg began the Seattle Ski Shuttle to provide an option for those needing a ride to our local ski areas. In 2009, working with local West Seattle cronies, he found a location and began Mountain to Sound Outfitters in November 2009. Greg has sat as the tourism representative for the Washington State Oil Spill Advisory Council and was involved in the Citizens Advisory Committee for the City of Seattle’s Shoreline Master Program. Greg currently sits on the Washington State Boater Safety Council as well as the Northwest Marine Trade Association Paddlesports Committee.

Providing top-notch gear and advice for people is a passion that continues as he develops additional sustainable tourism opportunities and raises his 2 sons Keller and Elwood. Mountain to Sound Outfitters is an active member of the West Seattle Business community and supports local and regional programs focusing on kids and environmental issues.

LUKE RAMSEY - Shop Technician, Sales Expert, Kayak Guide

Meet Luke, the Prince of P.O.W.! He grew up in Buffalo, Minnesota and spent a
lot of his younger years in the local creeks, hunting and fishing. This inspired him to
keep living an active lifestyle. Once in college, he found his passion for snowboarding
and fell in love with traveling west to big mountain resorts in the Pacific Northwest. One
of his favorite snowboards (available for purchase at Mountain to Sound Outfitters) is
the Lib Rig Snowboard Lib Tech. Luke’s advice for all snowboard beginners is to
embrace failure and falling down. As well as, to not get discouraged if it takes longer to
get better on the slopes. Luke is also a big fan of outdoor water sports and enjoys
kayaking, paddling, wakeboarding, and skim boarding. Luke loves kayaking and finding new
places to kayak to and camp-out at. Luke says self-rescue is crucial for beginners to
master before starting their kayaking journey.
An avid Pearl Jam fan, one of Luke best memories working here was being able to
meet Eddie Vedder and his wife Jill Vedder as they are patrons of Mountain to Sound
Outfitters. If you want to experience the awesomeness of the Prince of the P.O.W. come

SHANNON B. - Ambassador of Fun!

Meet Shannon B. who’s part of the fantastic crew at Mountain to Sound
Outfitters. Shannon is a 3rd generation West Seattleite whose family planted roots in
1920 in West Seattle. She has lived here her whole life. She started with Mountain to
Sound Outfitters in March 2020, days before the world shut down due to COVID-19.
The self-proclaimed Ambassador of Fun! She worked at Nordstroms for many years in
merchandising and as a part of the buying team. She brings that expertise to Mountain
to Sound Outfitters. She says the most exciting part of her job is making new friends
and seeing them at the local beach or on the slopes. She got into outdoor sports at just 6 years
old, with speedskating at Southgate in White Center. This sparked her avid pursuit of staying active. .
This then turned into passion for roller derby skating and longboard skating.
While growing up in West Seattle, Shannon spent a lot of her time paddling
around Alki Beach as a youth. She leads the Georgetown Morgue haunted house yearly - go visit
"Mildred!" She loves kayaking, standup paddle boarding, and snowboarding.
She is a big fan of all local Ski Resorts. Shannon is a proud
owner of a custom board Deviation Outlander 147. Lastly, one of Shannon’s many
hidden talents is that she plays the saxophone and is currently learning the bagpipes.
