Consignment: Arctic Tern 17 Sea Kayak
Description (from the seller)
The marine grade plywood fiberglass composite construction makes this kayak comparitively light yet strong and durable.
The Artic Tern's 17 West Greenland style hull is fast and responsive. The low center of gravity seat and the hulls hard lines make it feel markedly stable. Those chine lines allow the kayak to handle and track well in rough water with excellent secondary stability (stability increases in water as tips toward sides) With movement those chine lines grip and lock into the water with adding stability and mild surf handling capability.
This hull design needs no rudder feel stable in the water or steer well. A slight lean to one side carves out a gentle well defined turn. The open hull (no internal bulkhead) design packs gear well for multi-day trips and is great for either day trips or touring.
Fore and aft inflatable internal flotation bags help displace water if mistakenly tipped. The entire hull bottom length can thus be accessed by the hand pump. So a beach landing is not needed to open up a pump out a compartment (use dry bags for gear to be kept dry).
